Drapery Features and Specifications

  1. Three-Fold French Pleat at top.
  2. Headings are 4” doubled with a non-woven buckram.  If fabric is too bulky, we will put in a 4” single top.
  3. Side hems are 1 1/2” doubled and blind-stitched. Lockstitching may be used on open weaves. A 1” double, blind-stitched side hem is used on single width panels.
  4. Bottom hems are 4” doubled and blind-stitched. Lockstitching may be used on open weaves.
  5. All patterned drapery widths are pattern matched starting at the bottom.
  6. Multiple widths are joined by serging, which cuts away selvage edges and overlocks the seam. All seams are hidden behind pleats on pinch pleated draperies.

NOTE:  WOVEN HORIZONTAL STRIPES - We cannot be responsible if woven horizontal stripes do not match at seams.  In woven plaids and horizontal stripes, unevenness in warp tensions can cause wavy horizontal lines. This will make the job of matching pattern lines difficult, if not impossible. We will match to the best of our ability, but will not be responsible for remakes due to these types of fabric issues.
  7. Covered lead weights are inserted in corners and at seams of Sheer Draperies, no charge.  Weights in other draperies must be specified. Note Extra Charge - for all weights other then the standard covered weight.
  8. Heavy duty zinc pin-on hooks will be inserted 1  3 from top (standard traverse rod, wall mount) unless another type of rod or mount is specified.
  9. Lined Draperies are fabricated with a 1 1/2: doubled bottom hem on lining.  Lining will be railroaded when wide enough (turned sideways to eliminate seams.)

Lining is placed under the side hems and blind stitched to the side hem. At the heading, lining is turned and folded with the cover fabric. Cover fabric is exposed 4” on the back of the heading. Note: when using blackout lining, black pigment may show through at the stitch lines in the head.

  10. Comparable Fullness will be used in pleats and pleat spacing in all draperies of different widths, hung in the same room.  Comparable fullness is a method of adjusting the fullness of draperies used in the same room. Maximum tolerance allowed between pleats is 1 1/2”. Comparable fullness must be specified.
  11. Custom draperies are fan-folded and carefully package in specifically designed boxes.  In fan-folding, pleats are staggered, folds beneath pleats are aligned and panels are snugly wrapped in this position.
  12. 100% white nylon thread is used on all drapery headings, hems and seams. Monofilament thread is used for strength on pleats and areas that are backed or bonised.
  13. Overlaps and returns are figured at 3 1/2” unless otherwise specified.
  14. Vertically striped fabrics will be pleated with the stripe falling randomly in the drapery. Vertical stripes require hand pleating to pleat stripes on pattern. Extra fabric will be required. Ask about Pleating surcharge.
  15. On any treatment, including specialty and quilted products the finished width and length may be a tolerance of 1/4”.
